Our farming method

Barley fits perfectly into our crop rotation. When we grow winter crops, they can be hard on our soils. To help the soils recover quickly, we plant barley early in spring and then once harvested in the summer, we follow up with a regenerative mix of grasses, clovers and herbs to stay in the ground for the next 5 years.

We on farm team plant the barley seeds using our direct drill and then we harvest it with our header (combine harvester). John grew up on a mixed cropping farm, so it is a real passion for him.

The barley straw left over from harvest is a great feed to make sure our animals have enough fibre year round, so its a healthy circular system
